Mara Elliott (Dem.) defeated Robert Hickey (Rep.) Tuesday evening for the position of San Diego City Attorney.
Elliot won with a decently wide margin over Hickey, with the former leading the ladder 56.8 percent to 43.2 percent.
With the win, she becomes the first female and Latina in the history of San Diego to take the position of City Attorney.
Previously, Elliot served as the Chief Deputy City Attorney for seven years and is currently working to support to city’s plan for 100 percent renewable energy. Hickey has served as a Deputy District Attorney for almost 19 years.
