On the eve of Election Day in one of the most contentious Presidential races in memory, California Secretary of State Alex Padilla is reminding voters of their rights.
The California Voter Bill of Rights is available online in 10 different languages. Key provisions include:
- You have the right to vote if you are a registered voter even if your name is not on the list at your polling place. Ask for a provisional ballot.
- You have the right to vote if you are still in line when the polls close.
- You have the right to get a new ballot if you have made a mistake, and you haven’t already cast your ballot.
- You also have the right to drop off your completed vote-by-mail ballot at any polling place in the county where you are registered to vote.
- You have the right to get help casting your ballot.
- You have the right to report any illegal or fraudulent election activity to elections officials or the Secretary of State’s office.
“I urge voters to take the time to know their rights before heading to the polls,” Padilla said. “The Voter Bill of Rights is printed in the Voter Information Guide, which was sent to every voting household in the state. The Voter Bill of Rights will also be posted in every polling place on Election Day.”
