San Diego County Gun Owners, a political action committee promoting Second Amendment rights, has released its list of endorsed candidates vying for seats in local city and school board elections in November.

“It is crucial that voters elect candidates who will defend the rights of law-abiding citizens, stand strong in support of the Second Amendment and oppose senseless gun control laws,” said Michael Schwartz, executive director of the organization. “We are proud to support local candidates who will uphold the Second Amendment and the rights of gun owners.”

The endorsements, released Tuesday, come as Californians prepare to vote on Proposition 63, which would prohibit the possession of large-capacity magazines and require certain individuals to pass a background check in order to purchase ammunition.

The gun owners group’s endorsements are:

South County — Richard Bailey for mayor of Coronado; and Jason Paguio and Mike Diaz for Chula Vista City Council.

East County — Rob McNelis for mayor of Santee; Dustin Trotter and Mason Herron for Santee City Council; Michael Summers for Lemon Grove City Council; Kristine Alessio for La Mesa City Council; and Jim Miller for Cajon Valley Union School District.

North County — Amanda Rigby for Vista City Council; Keith Blackburn and Melanie Burkholder for Carlsbad City Council; Phil Graham for Encinitas City Council; Michael Morasco and Joe Garcia for Escondido City Council; Jack Feller and Dr. Linda Gonzales for Oceanside City Council; Lee DeMeo for Fallbrook Union High School District; and Dane White for Escondido Union High School District.

Founded in 2015, the gun owners association is a registered political action committee focused on organizing the gun industry and community.
