The sheriffs of both San Diego and Orange counties on Thursday endorsed the re-election of Rep. Darrell Issa to a 9th term in Congress.

“Congressman Issa has the skills, leadership, and experience necessary to keep San Diego and our nation safe,” said San Diego Sheriff Bill Gore.“I’ve worked with him on some of the toughest issues our law enforcement community faces and every time have been impressed with his tireless work ethic, dedication, and his deep sense of personal commitment to the safety of our area.”

Gore’s counterpart in Orange County, Sandra Hutchens, called Issa a “proven leader and a trusted friend” and said,“Our men and women in law enforcement have no stronger ally than Congressman Darrell Issa.”

The campaign also announced it has picked up the support of San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis,

Issa, whose district straddles north coastal San Diego and south Orange counties, is facing his most serious re-election challenge in November. Democrat Doug Applegate did better in the June primary than any previous challenger, losing 45 percent to 51 percent.
