Applegate, a retired Marine colonel and trial attorney, has attracted national attention after doing better in the June primary than any previous challenger, losing 45 percent to 51 percent in the district that straddles north San Diego and south Orange counties
“Congressman Darrell Issa is exactly what’s wrong with Washington, and southern California voters deserve to know that,” said Robert Dempsey, Applegate‘s campaign manager. “Colonel Doug Applegate will always but the country before any political agenda.”
Recent polls have shown Issa leading with margins ranging from 3 percent to 14 percent.
