Rep. Darrell Issa criticized the FBI‘s “stunning” decision Tuesday not to recommend charges against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server.

“This stunning decision shows just what the American people are so tired of: a system where the Clintons and the politically-connected few get to play by a different set of rules from everyone else,” Issa said in statement.

At a press conference in Washington, FBI Director James Comey said investigators did not have sufficient evidence to recommend an indictment against Clinton.

“Although there is evidence of potential violations of the statutes regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case,” Comey said.

Issa said the evidence cited by the FBI was “damning” and proved Clinton, the presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee, was not only extremely careless in her handling of classified information, but that she knew better.

“Under similar circumstances, anyone else would have to bear the consequences for their actions, but in this case, justice and accountability seem to have evaded the American people once again,” Issa said.

Issa, a Republican, represents north coastal San Diego County and south Orange County.
