Rep. Darrell Issa on Friday encouraged the federal government embrace innovation in the sharing economy and use travel services like Uber and Lyft.

Earlier this year Issa and Rep. Eric Swalwell, the co-chairs of the new House Sharing Economy Caucus, wrote to the head of the General Services Administration requesting that the agency make clear that use of shared transportation services is permitted.

Issa says the GSA responded with “essentially a non-answer” by writing that “each agency determines and manages final authorization and approval of travel expenses based on its mission and internal policies and controls.”

The congressman, who represents north coastal San Diego county and south Orange County, appeared on Fox Business Friday to press his case for government use of innovative services developed in the sharing economy.
