Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris brought her Senate campaign to San Diego on Friday, touring downtown businesses at lunch hour and handing out fresh beignets.

When she arrived at the popular downtown Donut Bar, owner Santiago Campa fried two boxes of beignets, which Harris passed out to people waiting in line. It was National Donut Day, and there had been a line since 6 a.m., Campa said.

“I’m not taking anything for granted,” said Harris, though she is considered the front-runner. “There are four more days before the election and I’m working every one of them.”

She urged San Diegans to get out and vote on Tuesday.

Harris was accompanied by San Diego City Councilman Todd Gloria, who is running for state Assembly and has been endorsed by Harris.

Later Harris was scheduled to lead a rally at a union hall near San Diego State University, and then visit merchants in Hillcrest.

There are 34 candidates on the ballot to succeed retiring Sen. Barbara Boxer, but Democrats Harris and Rep. Loretta Sanchez and Republicans Thomas Del Beccaro and Duf Sundheim are the best known.
