Rep. Scott Peters, voting in San Diego on Tuesday, called presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump a “frightening” candidate.

Asked his views of Trump, Peters responded with four words: “frightening…appalling…dishonest …reckless.”

Peters, who serves on the House Armed Services Committee, said Trump’s call to exit NATO, America’s long-standing military alliance with Europe, was particularly “scary.”

Peters said he voted for former Secretary of Sate Hillary Clinton because “she’s one of the most qualified persons to ever run for President,” though he acknowledged she is “not a perfect candidate.”

“I’m for her. I’m not a socialist,” he said, referring to Vermont Gov. Bernie Sanders.

Peters spoke briefly after casting his mail ballot at the San Diego Registrar of Voters office in Kearny Mesa.

He will be in Washington on June 7, the day of the California primary, because Congress will be in session.

Peters, a Democrat, is running for re-election to represent the 52nd district, which encompasses, Coronado, La Jolla, much of the city of San Diego and Poway.
