Rep. Scott Peters on Monday endorsed Gil Cabrera in San Diego’s crowded race for city attorney.
“As someone who practiced law in both the public and private sectors and as the last attorney to serve on the City Council, I know well the qualifications needed for the office and think Cabrera is the best candidate to hold the position of San Diego’s top attorney,” Peters said.
Cabrera is a lawyer, former chairman of the city’s ethics commission and a director of the San Diego Convention Center.
“Congressman Peters has been an invaluable public servant for the people of San Diego,” said Cabrera. “I appreciate his support for both my candidacy and my plan to address the health epidemic that is gun violence in San Diego.”
Five candidates are vying to succeed Jan Goldsmith, who cannot run for a third term as city attorney. Cabrera faces Port Commissioner Rafael Castellanos, Deputy City Attorney Mara Elliott, Deputy District Attorney Robert Hickey and lawyer Bryan Pease.
