Harris was one of six people mentioned in an article posted Sunday on the New York Times website. She is currently running for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Barbara Boxer.
An Oakland native, Harris is a graduate of Howard University and the University of California Hastings College of the Law.
The other two judges with California connections mentioned by the Times are:
- Sri Srinivasan, 48, an Indian native and Stanford University Law School graduate who is currently judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
- Jacqueline Nguyen, 51, a Vietnamese refugee who settled in California and graduated from Occidental College and UCLA School of Law. She served as a judge on the Los Angeles County Superior Court and is currently a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Scalia died Sunday of apparently natural causes at a hunting resort in Texas. He was 79.
President Obama said Saturday he plans to nominate a successor, though Senate Republicans want to delay a decision until the next President is inaugurated.
