San Diego airport officials and community leaders Friday celebrated the imminent opening of a $316 million rental car center at Lindbergh Field.
The center, which will house most of the national, local, independent and small business rental car companies in one location on the north side of the airport, is scheduled to open to the public next week. The building will house 14 brands.
Passengers picking up or dropping off cars will take buses to the facility that remain on airport grounds, so airport officials hope the facility will reduce traffic on North Harbor Drive.
“The new Rental Car Center is the latest example of our commitment to optimizing the passenger experience at San Diego International Airport,” said San Diego County Regional Airport Authority Board Chairman Robert Gleason said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. “This facility also provides environmental benefits to the community while strengthening the airport’s role as an economic engine for the entire region.”
The facility is scheduled to officially open to the traveling public Wednesday.
