Former White House aide Denise Gitsham reported Tuesday that she has raised $254,000 in her campaign to unseat Rep. Scott Peters in the 52nd District.
“I am unbelievably grateful for the support I’ve received thus far, but will not rest until I’ve reached out to every single constituent in my district, and earned their vote as well,” said Gitsham, who is her first race for elected office.
Peters, a Democrat and former San Diego city councilman, is serving his second term in Congress after a bitter re-election battle against another former councilman, Republican Carl DeMaio. Peters is considered a moderate Democrat and received the unexpected backing of the influential U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The National Republican Congressional Committee has targeted the district, which stretches from Coronado to Poway, as one of the party’s best “pick-up” opportunities nationally.
Gitsham, a California native and graduate of Georgetown Law School, worked in the White House and the Justice Department prior to moving home to California to start her own public relations business.
