Night lane and ramp closures along Interstate 805 between State Route 54 and 43rd Street in National City will take place Monday through Wednesday between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. weather permitting.

Caltrans said up to three lanes in either direction, as well as the connector ramps from eastbound and westbound SR-54 to northbound I-805 will be closed intermittently. The northbound on-ramp at Sweetwater Road, the southbound on- and off-ramps at East Plaza Boulevard, and the southbound on- ramp at 43rd Street also will be closed periodically.

Motorists traveling eastbound and westbound on SR-54 who wish to connect to northbound I-805, will be detoured to southbound I-805, exiting left on Bonita Road, and then left to northbound I-805.

Motorists traveling west on East Plaza Boulevard will be directed to travel south on Highland Avenue to eastbound SR-54, then to I-805. Motorists headed east on East Plaza Boulevard will be detoured to travel south on Euclid Avenue to I-805.

Nearby residents can expect intermittent lights and noise during work hours. Construction crews will work to minimize impacts to businesses, residents and commuters.

The improvements under construction at East Plaza Boulevard are part of the first phase of the I-805 South Express Lanes Project, a $1.1-billion effort to create a modern new transportation backbone for South County. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in early 1916, Caltrans said.
