Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s year-old nonprofit One San Diego hosted its second Better-a-Block party in Webster on Saturday.
The San Diego Police Department, sponsor AT&T and local pastors came together to celebrate the holiday season. Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman and and other city officials are working to promote community engagement and strengthen the relationships between neighborhood residents and their civic leaders, while enjoying some light-hearted festivities.
Admission, food and entertainment were provided for free. As a highlight of the event, the mayor and the first lady Katherine Faulconer gave away a Thanksgiving turkey.
The students of Webster Elementary School designed a street mural for the event. During the party, students continued to paint the mural.
Katherine Faulconer recently said in an interview with KUSI that “One San Diego is about bringing equal opportunity and prosperity to all neighborhoods in San Diego.”
According to its website, One San Diego’s top three priorities are to encourage a thriving community, economic prosperity and increased opportunities for youth in San Diego. Some of their accomplishments include making donations of books and computers to public schools and libraries.
