San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts added his name Monday to a growing list of endorsements of former prosecutor of the year Robert Hickey for San Diego City Attorney.
Roberts’ district includes much of the city of San Diego, from Encanto to La Jolla. He joins Sheriff Bill Gore and City Council members Chris Cate and Lorie Zapf in endorsing Hickey before the primary in March 2016.
“I have worked with Robert Hickey for over a decade and watched his talented legal skills and commitment to the truth bring justice to crime victims across San Diego,” said Roberts. “I am confident that he is the best candidate to provide independent legal advice and steady leadership in San Diego. He has the integrity to continue fighting for taxpayers and is committed to moving San Diego forward.”
“The words of Supervisor Roberts are humbling and I am grateful for his support,” Hickey said.
Hickey faces Port Commissioner Rafael Castellanos and fellow lawyers Gil Cabrera and Mara Elliott in the race for the seat vacated by Jan Goldsmith, who cannot serve a third term.
Hickey, who was named San Diego County Prosecutor of the Year in 2011 for his handling of a notorious gang-related double-murder case, has served as assistant chief for the gang and major narcotics units in the District Attorney’s Office
