The San Diego County Employees Retirement Association announced Thursday it has permanently hired pension veteran David Wescoe as chief executive officer of the $10.6 billion public retirement fund.
“We are very fortunate to have a proven leader in David, with demonstrated readiness to lead SDCERA. He has made important contributions to SDCERA’s success during his time as interim CEO, and the board has complete confidence in his ability to lead SDCERA successfully into the future,” said Skip Murphy, chair of the retirement fund.
Wescoe has served as interim CEO since April, when long-time CEO Brian White resigned, and earlier helped turn around the city’s scandal-plagued pension pension fund.
“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead this exceptional organization,” said Wescoe. “SDCERA is in the ‘life-touching’ business; our responsibility to our members impacts the livelihoods of thousands of individuals. Strengthening the fund and internal expectations for the benefit of SDCERA members over the long-term is a terrific opportunity, one that I am very excited to have.”
Wescoe is currently president of Efficient Market Advisors, an independent investment advisory firm, and was previously chief executive for the Motion Picture Industry Pension and Health Plans.
