Gaston, a 44-year-old Democrat, has served as a deputy public defender at the San Diego County Office of the Primary Public Defender since 1996.

The University of California Berkeley School of Law graduate will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Allan J. Preckel.

Rodriguez, 46, has been employed by the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office since 1998.

The La Mesa resident was also an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law, where she earned her law degree, and a deputy San Diego city attorney. The Republican will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Susan D. Huguenor.

Both will earn an annual salary of $184,610, according to the governor’s office.
