The deadline for open enrollment in insurance coverage beginning Jan. 1 under the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, is at midnight Monday.

Beginning in 2015, all Americans must have health insurance or pay a penalty with their tax return. Subsidies are available depending upon income level.

Americans can enroll through their employers if they offer insurance, through private insurers, or through the public health insurance marketplace, which is Covered California in this state.

If you enrolled in Obamacare last year, you will be automatically renewed, but may miss out on new options if you don’t participate in open enrollment.

Telephone help is available through Covered California at (800) 300-1506, or locally through the free 2-1-1 service.
