Rep. Scott Peters’ lead against Republican Challenger Carl DeMaio for the 52nd Congressional District seat widens to nearly 5,000 votes, according to the latest update from the San Diego Registrar of Voters.
The results released Saturday afternoon have Peters leading by 4,771 votes with nearly 184,000 ballots counted. The Associated Press called the race for Peters after Friday’s count showed him ahead by nearly 4,500 votes.
With about 6,000 to 8,000 ballots left to count in the 52nd District, Peters has not declared victory and DeMaio hasn’t conceded.
In the other close race in the county, Imperial Beach Mayor Jim Janney is tied with challenger Serge Dedina with 1928 votes each.
There are about 74,000 absentee and provisional ballots left to be counted in the county. The next update will be on Monday afternoon.
