Rep. Scott Peters is leading challenger Carl DeMaio in the 52nd Congressional District race by 861 votes out of more than 156,800 ballots counted so far, according to the San Diego County Registrar of Voters Office.
“We are very pleased with (Thursday’s) result and continue to remain optimistic that Rep. Scott Peters will return to the 114th Congress,” campaign manager MaryAnne Pinter said in a statement.
There are still approximately 150,000 absentee and provisional ballots left to to count.
The high-profile race to represent the 52nd Congressional District and the battle for mayor of Imperial Beach remain too close to call.
The next updated results from the registrar will be 5 p.m. Friday.
“I have not conceded this race for IB and the Registrar of Voters has not certified the election,” said Dedina after a meeting Wednesday with Registrar Michael Vu.
A number of school board and other local races around the county could also be affected by the final count. The registrar has an online list of close races.
