Rep. Duncan Hunter is attracting national attention after claiming on Fox News that fighters from the Islamic State, or ISIS, were apprehended on the border with Mexico.

In a Tuesday night interview with Greta Van Susteren, Hunter said the Border Patrol had captured “at least 10 ISIS fighters” trying to enter the U.S. across the Mexican border.

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson denied Hunter’s claim, saying there is “no credible, specific intelligence to that effect.”

Hunter said ISIS doesn’t have an air force or navy, but can attack Americans by infiltrating from Mexico. “The only way that Americans are going to be harmed by radical Islam is by having an open southern border,” he said.

Hunter represents the 50th District, which includes most of San Diego County east of Interstate 15 and north of Interstate 8 plus Temecula in Riverside County.
