A Carlsbad man was appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown on Thursday to the state Board of Mining and Geology.

Brian Anderson, 50, is the vice president of property permitting and environment at Vulcan Materials Co., where he has worked since 2002. He has also been the company’s director of environment, regulatory affairs and sustainable development, environmental affairs manager and area resources manager.

Anderson, a Republican, worked for Brown and Caldwell Inc., a national environmental engineering firm, from 1994 to 2002.

According to its website, the board represents the state’s interests regarding the development, utilization and conservation of mineral resources; reclamation of mined lands; development of geologic and seismic hazard information; and provides a forum for public redress.

The position requires Senate confirmation. The compensation is $100 per diem.
