In one of the most competitive Congressional races in the country, Rep. Scott Peters and his Republican challenger Carl DeMaio are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on television ads.
However, if you get your news primarily online, via a computer, tablet or smartphone, chances are you haven’t seen the latest ads. So here are the ads released Aug. 21 by the Peters campaign and Aug. 25 by the DeMaio campaign.
Political campaigns nationwide are grappling with the challenge of reaching younger voters who are less likely to watch television, preferring to use online devices.
The median age of TV viewers in America is 54, almost two decades older than the national median age of 38. Thus the audience for TV, and therefore TV ads, is definitely older, though older Americans are also more likely to vote.
