San Diego City Council candidate Chris Cate, a taxpayer advocate and former small businessman running in District 6, picked up the endorsement Tuesday of City Attorney Jan Goldsmith.
Goldsmith, who played an instrumental role in removing Mayor Bob Filner last year, cited Cate’s leadership and experience with city issues as reasons for the endorsement.
“Chris Cate is the right candidate with the knowledge, experience and leadership to be San Diego’s next city councilman,” Goldsmith said. “Following the controversy over the last year, it is important that we elect thoughtful leaders that have the experience to handle the job.”
“It is a huge honor to have the confidence of our City Attorney Jan Goldsmith, who has been so instrumental in the recovery of San Diego,” Cate said. “I look forward to working with Jan and continuing to move San Diego in the right direction.”
Cate, a Republican, won 47 percent of the vote in the June primary and faces Carol Kim, a Democrat, in the November general election.
District 6 includes Clairemont Mesa, Kearny Mesa, Miramar, Mira Mesa and parts of Rancho Penasquitos.
