Rep. Scott Peters (D-52) on Wednesday called for Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki to resign in the wake of new reports of “significant delays” in treatment at Veterans Administration hospitals.
“For too long the VA has been steeped in complacency and mismanagement – that has to end today and the change must begin at the top,” Peters said in a statement.
“While General Shinseki’s service to his country is unquestioned, the failure to make necessary changes cannot continue. Secretary Shinseki should resign immediately or President Obama should ask him to leave.”
Peters’ call comes after the release of a critical report by the VA’s inspector general that confirmed allegations that the VA failed to deliver timely care to veterans.
Peters’ 52nd District covers much of central San Diego County including Poway, Coronado, and large portions of the City of San Diego.
