Sherman and representatives from the Sportfishing Association of California and the San Diego Port Tenants Association will meet with Mexican government officials to promote regional tourism and seek a resolution to burdensome and confusing visa issues.

Currently a fisherman must purchase a new visa for every fishing trip taken to Mexican waters. This results in boat owners throughout San Diego taking fewer trips to Mexican waters, Sherman said, and spending less money locally on fishing and boating equipment.

Sherman said he is optimistic about the dialogue with Mexico, adding that, ” I look forward to our continued partnership and working together to ease the burden on San Diego’s fishing community and promote tourism between the two countries.”

Sherman represents District 7, which stretches from Mission Valley north to Miramar and West to Lake Murray.
