San Diego City Council member Scott Sherman on Monday dedicated a quarter-mile-long bicycle and pedestrian pathway in Mission Valley that closes a key gap in the San Diego River Trail.

Sherman was joined by Mayor Kevin Faulconer and council member Lorie Zapf at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the $1.8 million project.

“This pathway gets us one step closer to fulfilling the vision of a continuous pathway from the ocean to the mountains and helps fulfill the mayor’s promise of reinvesting more money into San Diego communities,” Sherman said.

The new pathway completes a major portion of the San Diego River Trail by making a connection along the north bank of the river under State Route 163.
