Need help with health insurance as the March 31 deadline looms to register under the Affordable Care Act?

Covered California, the state’s exchange for getting people insured, is hosting a 10 a.m. workshop Saturday in Mira Mesa if you want to learn more or sign up.

The workshop will be at the Mira Mesa library, 8405 New Salem St.

There will be assistance available for those who have questions about medical insurance or need assistance signing up. Those with low incomes are eligible for subsidies to help them pay for their insurance.

Nearly 77,000 San Diegans enrolled by the end of February, the state reported Friday and another 78,000 were found to be eligible for Medi-Cal coverage. Statewide, more than a million people have enrolled.

Families or individuals with no insurance face penalties, Covered Calfornia warned Friday, if they fail to sign up by the end for the month.

Officials, even President Obama, have fanned out in recent days to remind people of the deadline and particularly to encourage young people to sign up.
