Run Women Run on Wednesday endorsed Ocean Beach community leader Gretchen Kinney Newsom for the interim San Diego City Council District 2 seat that will become vacant after current council member Kevin Faulconer takes office as Mayor.
“Gretchen’s experience, leadership and commitment to her community make her the ideal person to serve District 2 and will serve her well as a member of City Council,” said Jamie Quient, co-chair of the Run Women Run Political Action Committee.
Faulconer is expected to take office on March 3. The City Council has 30 days to select an interim representative. That person will serve until December 2014 and cannot be someone who is running for the permanent position.
For the 2014 election, Run Women Run has endorsed former federal prosecutor Sarah Boot for District 2.
Newsom serves as president of the Ocean Beach Town Council and chairs the OB Holiday. She is principal and director of communications and legislative affairs at LeSar Development Consultants.
Started in 2008, Run Women Run is a non-partisan political group focused on inspiring, recruiting, training and supporting pro-choice San Diego women who seek elected or appointed positions. The group currently has almost 300 members from all parts of San Diego County.
