In a recent public forum, the GOP candidates for the 75th state Assembly District spent their time taking potshots and accusing each other of being liars and tools of the Democrats. It should be noted that no actual Democrats were invited to participate in this supposedly “nonpartisan” forum in Ramona.

Why do these Republicans care only about sparring with each other or spending time in a futile effort to “fix” something they have no power to change?

This chaos and infighting is a perfect demonstration of why unincorporated San Diego County has been largely ignored by Sacramento leadership over the past decade. If we elect one of these deeply unserious candidates to the state Assembly, we will continue to be overlooked by legislators.

One of the jobs of a state representative is to bring resources from Sacramento to fund worthwhile projects right here at home. Unsurprisingly, the legislators who have been elected in our district have utterly failed to perform this vital role.

California’s budgeting process relies on cooperation and compromise. How willing would you be to compromise with someone who spends their time repeatedly punching you in the face?

I am amused by the childish comments and actions of my Republican opponents. I am the only candidate in the race with a wide coalition of support from groups such as the California Democratic Party, California Labor Federation and its member unions, LGBTQ+ groups like Equality California and Honor PAC, and elected leaders across the state and region.

I stand with my party and our collective values in rural California.

I’m often asked what my priorities are once I get elected. I find that to be a very easy question to answer: My number one priority is to make life better for the residents of this district. I will do that by working with our leadership to ensure they understand the importance of investment in Assembly District 75.

While the Republican representatives of our district have spent the last decade punching leadership in the face — or doing nothing at all — Democratic lawmakers who represent neighboring communities brought millions of dollars home to support their residents. I want to secure funding for projects like a long-desired community aquatics center in Ramona, investment for a plant in Santee to facilitate our region’s water independence, and critical repairs to infrastructure to avoid further flood damage like what we saw in recent storms in Spring Valley and Casa De Oro.

You won’t hear Carl DeMaio or Andrew Hayes talking about projects like these on the campaign trail because they only care about causing chaos, sowing discontent and encouraging racial division disguised as “immigration reform.”

As the Democratic-endorsed candidate, I look forward to representing our common values in Sacramento and sharing how I plan to support our district’s working families and small businesses. That’s why I am the best and only choice for Assembly District 75 this November.
