This week marks the second attempt by the “Know Nothing Club” of House Democrats to undercut Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The first silly challenge happened even before all the 2018 votes were counted. The Democrats netted 41 seats in the House and gained control in a historic wave.
Rather than congratulate the architect of that win, these Democrats began to challenge Pelosi’s well-deserved right to the speakership. She won. The insurgents lost “bigly.”
And some of those same idiots are at it again. This time with demands that the House begin proceedings to impeach the President—now, more than ever.
So, why are these unhappy folks at it again?
They are miffed that Pelosi took the issue Trump most wants the Democrats to own—impeachment—off the table.
In one interview Pelosi deprived the President of his favorite posture — the victim.
She also outmaneuvered and insulted Trump in elegant fashion—declaring that she opposed impeachment because such action requires both “compelling evidence” and “overwhelming bipartisan support.”
Neither of which is currently available. And, as she said, “it divides the country.”
Then she proceeded to capture the news cycle with this insulting bon mot: “He’s just not worth it.”
Perhaps after the Mueller report is finished, perhaps after the Congress and the Southern District of New York complete their multiple investigations, a different course will emerge.
Just not now.
In fact, Pelosi certainly does not want the distraction of impeachment proceedings to derail her political strategy for delivering another blowout election win in 2020. She wants Democrats to stay agenda-focused on the issues of infrastructure, reducing prescription drug prices, gun control, and border security.
Impeachment, she rightly reasons, gives Trump and his base a winning grudge issue for his re-election campaign. Its absence gives Democrats the open field.
Just as Pelosi took hits during the 2018 campaign where she provided cover for more than a dozen candidates in moderate or Trump-leaning districts to voice their displeasure with her, so too has she now provided cover for those same candidates to ditch the divisive impeachment debate—and hang on to their coveted seats.
Back then, she told them: “Just, win baby.” And they did. Now she shielding them now from taking an unpopular position.
But that brilliant and strategic move against “impeachment now” has rankled the same idiots as before.
They still desire to promote themselves and are happy to undercut the Speaker.
Most notable among them is Rep. Seth Moulton from Massachusetts. His losing effort to topple Pelosi last year landed him in the unenviable position of being irrelevant, with no future in the House.
That explains his recent cable news interviews demanding that “it is our constitutional duty” to begin impeachment proceedings now.
And, by the way, he is making up his mind about a possible run for President!
Watch the idiots in case there is a Part III to this madness.
But, watch more closely as Pelosi keeps her final promise to “remain in politics until Trump is gone.”
