Giving Tuesday has emerged in recent years as a powerful complement to Black Friday, providing vital community organizations a welcome opportunity to share in Americans’ holiday generosity.
On this Giving Tuesday, in an era when serious journalism is being challenged as “fake news,” local independent news sources like Times of San Diego deserve your consideration.
Our news website, now in its fifth year of operation, has published over 31,000 news articles about San Diego. Our mission is simple: accurate, comprehensive and fair coverage of the major local news developments. We’re not partisan in this divided era; our goal is simply to report the facts.
The San Diego community is noticing. Last month, for the third year in a row, we were judged the best local news website by the San Diego Press Club.
A growing number of readers are contributing directly to Times of San Diego. Over the past year, contributions of nearly $3,000 have helped us add nearly 150 hours of reporting. But that $3,000 represents just a few percentage points of our budget.
Times of San Diego is committed to free publication. We’ll never erect a restrictive “pay wall” like legacy media organizations. We believe freely available news is crucial to the functioning of local democracy. That’s why we rely on advertising and your contributions.
A small monthly donation — the cost of one latte — can have a big impact over time. For example, if just 100 more readers sign up to contribute $5 per month, we could significantly expand coverage of the California state legislature in 2019.
You can become a monthly supporter by clicking the red button below:
We’ve partnered with media startup PressPatron to make it easy. And if you prefer PayPal, we have that too. just go to this page.
Thank you for supporting quality local journalism in San Diego!
Chris Jennewein is editor and publisher of Times of San Diego.
