Map from Google Analytics shows size of Times of San Diego’s March readership in different U.S. cities.

Times of San Diego, the San Diego region’s year-old independent news website, was read by 175,000 people in March.

Google Analytics reported 174,859 unique users — readers who came to the site at least once — in March. Those users read 338,232 pages of information.

The website’s readers continue to be young, local and mobile.

The 25-34 age group was the largest audience segment, accounting for 24 percent of reading sessions, followed by the 45-54 age group with 21 percent of sessions and the 35-44 group with 18 percent. This is a considerably younger audience than for newspapers and broadcast television, for which the median age of the audience is over 55.

Readers from the city of San Diego accounted for 34 percent of reading sessions, followed by readers elsewhere in San Diego County at 17 percent and those elsewhere in Southern California at 6 percent. The balance of readers came from elsewhere in the United States and in some cases beyond because of the international nature of the Internet.

Exactly half of the reading sessions were on desktop and laptop computers, while 36 percent were on smartphones and 14 percent on tablets. Times of San Diego uses the latest responsive design to automatically resize for different screens.
