World-class talent landing bayside

The Winter Olympics are underway in Milan, Italy, but did you know many athletes representing Team USA train right here in San Diego? The Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center is home to some of the world’s top Olympic and Paralympic competitors, and fortunately for us, some of them have discovered that the beach is the perfect place to unwind.

But that’s not our only Olympic connection. As we marvel at the talented athletes representing the USA in Italy right now, sneak peeks are starting to drop about the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

It was recently announced that San Diego will host not one, but two Olympic events! Snapdragon Stadium in Mission Valley will be known as San Diego Stadium for men’s and women’s Olympic soccer matches, bringing world-class competition just a short drive from our neighborhood.

International surfers will also show off their talents at Lower Trestles, right on the northern border of San Diego County, for the Olympic surfing competitions. Maybe if we’re lucky, some of those talented surfers will make their way to our shores. 

While the spotlight may be global, this is a reminder that world-class talent is training, competing and living right here in our backyard. With the Olympics heading our way in just a couple years, expect the energy to reach our local beaches, restaurants and small businesses. Your next walk on the boardwalk or morning coffee run might just include a future Olympian.
