Hello, Point Loma and Ocean Beach!
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably weary of change — even when it’s something small. For example, when my college roommates moved out of our house after we graduated, it rocked my world. All of a sudden, things weren’t like they used to be and that can be hard to come to terms with.
That’s why when I heard about Winston’s Beach Club overhauling their business it struck a familiar chord. Winston’s Beach Club, which has been in OB since 1987, announced recently that it would be temporarily closing to renovate its bar under new ownership and a new name, which has yet to be revealed.
To celebrate all the good times that were had at Winston’s, they are putting on a “Last Call” show on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 9 p.m. The show will feature the band Fish and The Seaweeds alongside many special guests, and they will be selling the remaining Winston’s merch at the show, so grab it while you can.
The good news is that not everything about Winston’s will be changing. Electric Waste Band, who have been playing at Winston’s for 34 years, will continue to play their usual Monday nights after the renovation. It will remain a Washington Commanders bar if that’s where you choose to catch football games on Sunday and karaoke is here to stay as well.
The older I get, the more change seems to be inevitable. So even when something in my community changes, I find it best to embrace it. The best way to do that with Winston’s is to go celebrate on Saturday with the community and support their next chapter as well.
