San Diego police issued more speeding citations citywide in 2025 than in any year since 2021, but officers issued fewer citations in Ocean Beach, Midway and Point Loma, according to data obtained by Times of San Diego.
Officers assigned to beats covering Ocean Beach, Point Loma, Midway, Loma Portal, Point Loma Heights, Roseville, La Playa and Sunset Cliffs issued 72 speeding citations last year. That was the fewest since 2019, when officers issued 68 citations.
Despite the overall decline in the Peninsula area, one location remained the top hotspot for speeding enforcement. The 3900 block of Pacific Highway, between Barnett Avenue and Washington Street, generated more speeding citations than any other block in the Beacon’s coverage area.
Officers issued 43 speeding citations there last year, up slightly from 39 the previous year.
“Speeding is consistently shown to be one of the top three factors in serious and fatal traffic crashes, along with distracted driving and DUI,” Sgt. Greg Minter said. “As we see drivers speeding on our streets, we will continue to enforce the law as our resources allow.”
