Hello, Uptown!
The FIFA World Cup kicks off today! It does not matter whether you’re a die-hard fan or new to the rapidly growing soccer community in San Diego, you can be part of an electric atmosphere that is unique to a World Cup watch party.
North Park’s very own Bluefoot Bar is set to return as one of San Diego’s top destinations.
The bar has become known as a destination for soccer fans, recently named the 9th Best Soccer Bar in the country by USA Today. Bluefoot has been growing a community of fans from all over the world since 2012, and will stream every World Cup match no matter the time. In the past, they have opened at 5 a.m. for Newcastle vs. Sunderland, and as early as 4:30 a.m. for Arsenal. During the World Cup, Bluefoot is sure to be transformed with international and local fans in their favorite team’s colors.
The World Cup returns to the United States for the first time in over 30 years, which came as part of a historic decision to host matches throughout three different countries: the United States, Mexico and Canada. This will also be the largest World Cup to date, as 48 teams will compete, as opposed to the 32-team format used over the last two decades.
As co-hosts, the US Men’s National Team automatically qualifies to participate in up to 8 matches before advancing to the knockout rounds, and based on their performance, the finals.
