It’s hot, San Diego.

In case you didn’t notice, there’s a heat wave rolling through the region. That’s a joke — these oppressive temperatures are impossible to miss. The heat’s making people cranky (and by “people” I mean “me.”) It’s true, though — there are studies showing that heat waves can impair cognition and make us angry and impulsive, and did I mention it makes me cranky?

But there’s other dangers, too, of course — heat waves rolling in also increase the dangers of dehydration and heat stroke, and of course wildfires break out all over when it’s hot. The good news is that this particular heat wave will be over and done by the end of the week. Then what will I complain about?

Speaking of fires, crews are making progress on the Steele Fire in East County, which broke out yesterday afternoon. It’s holding steady at 28 acres as of Thursday morning. Be careful out there.

We’ve also got updates on a volunteer who was detained by ICE outside an immigration courtroom, a controversy around San Diego Pride, grants going to good causes around the county, a charming little profile of a yarn shop in Point Loma, and much more. Check it out — and stay cool today, if you can.
