Hello, Point Loma and Ocean Beach!

Ladies and gentlemen, the day you’ve been waiting for all year is almost here. This Saturday June 27 is The 46th annual Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off. As you probably know: the day is full of festivities and nonstop action.

The festival officially kicks off at 10 a.m. while the music starts an hour later. Newport Avenue will be bookended with two stages of all-day music featuring loads of local music starting at 11 a.m. and going until 8 p.m. The 92107 Stage is in the parking lot of the US Bank right across the street from the Speedway Gas Station, while the Sunset Stage is located in the Pier parking lot.

If all that dancing and running from stage to stage gets you hungry, then look no further than the Chili Cook-Off. The cook-off begins at 11 a.m and tickets to taste and vote on the main event can be purchased for $30.

Still hungry? Well there’s a Hodad’s Burger Eating Contest at 5 p.m. on the Sunset Stage. If you’re anything like me, you don’t even need to participate to lose your appetite — just watching other people engage in competitive eating does the trick every time.

There’s also a 21+ Beergarden where you can grab a local refreshing brew (or cocktail!) located next to the Sunset Stage.

Kids are going to have a blast too. People of all ages are welcome to purchase a square on the community mural to paint. Squares go on sale at 10 a.m. and can be highly coveted. Get them while you can. On top of all that good stuff, local vendors will be lining Newport Avenue with art and food for sale.

Just days after the solstice, I can’t think of a dreamier way to kick off the summer season.
