
The San Diego-based guided-missile destroyers USS Stockdale and USS O’Kane successfully defended an attack by Iran-backed Houthi militants against merchant vessels in the Gulf of Aden, Central Command announced Tuesday.
The destroyers were escorting three U.S. owned, operated, and flagged merchant vessels on Monday and Tuesday when faced with multiple drones and one anti-ship cruise missile. according to a press statement.
“The reckless attacks resulted in no injuries and no damage to any vessels, civilians or U.S. Naval,” Central Command said.
The Navy did not say what type of weapons the two warships used to defeat the attack.
During a similar transit on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, the same destroyers successfully defeated another Houthi attack.
“These actions reflect the ongoing commitment of CENTCOM forces to protect U.S. personnel, regional partners, and international shipping against attacks by Iran-backed Houthis,” Central Command said.
