A wildfire sparked by a training exercise spread over scores of open acres Tuesday in the eastern reaches of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, authorities reported.
An ordnance detonation started the fire on the grounds of the San Diego military base about 2:30 p.m., according to MCAS Miramar public affairs.
Crews with the Miramar Fire Department and San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, including personnel aboard two helicopters, worked to subdue the blaze, which had blackened in excess of 100 acres east of state Route 163 by late afternoon, said Gunnery Sgt. Jesse Stence, a base spokesman.
As of 5:45 p.m., crews had halted the spread of the blaze at roughly 105 acres, according to MCAS Miramar officials. No structural damage or injuries were reported.
