One Marine was killed and six others sustained minor injuries Thursday when a light armored vehicle overturned during training exercises at Camp Pendleton, authorities said.
The rollover crash, which a Marine Corps official called “a tragic event,” involved personnel with the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division,
The incident occurred about 9 a.m., according to Marine Corps officials. The deceased Marine’s identity was withheld pending family notification. The other Marines were hospitalized for treatment of minor injuries.
“Officials are investigating the circumstances of the accident at this time,” said 1st Lt. Cameron Edinburgh, media officer for the 1st Marine Division. “This is a tragic event, and our thoughts are with the family, friends and the unit at this difficult time.”
Another Marine died in a rollover crash at Camp Pendleton last month. Staff Sgt. Joshua Braica, 29, died following an April 13 crash in which two other Marines received minor injuries.
Braica, an elite Marine Raider, left behind a wife and son, reported Stars and Stripes.
