The San Diego-based guided-missile destroyer USS Stockdale docked in Darwin, Australia, this week for a port visit.
The ship arrived in the city on the north coast of Australia on Wednesday, with sailors lining the rails in a Navy tradition.
The Arleigh Burke-class warship is named for Vice Admiral James Bond Stockdale, who spent seven years in a North Vietnamese prison camp and was a candidate for vice president in 1992.
The Stockdale is deployed to the 7th Fleet area of operations in support of security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
