A F/A18E Super Hornet shrouded by steam from a catapult on the USS Carl Vinson was one of the Defense Department’s top photos of the past week.
The photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Sean M. Castellan shows three crew members directing the pilot on the flight desk of the San Diego-based supercarrier.
The nuclear-powered Carl Vinson recently completed training exercises in preparation for an upcoming deployment.
Known as “America’s Favorite Carrier,” the Carl Vinson was the ship from which the terrorist Osama Bin Laden’s body was buried at sea.
The Week in Photos is a collection of the best images published on Defense.gov during a seven-day period.
