Capt. Patrick Foege took over from Capt. Keith Moore in a command change for the San Diego-based Boxer Amphibious Ready Group, the Navy announced Friday.

The ceremony took place aboard the Boxer Thursday in the Persian Gulf, according to the Navy.

Designated as Amphibious Squadron 1, the Boxer group — which includes the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer, amphibious transport dock USS New Orleans and amphibious dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry — has been deployed since February.

The 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit from Camp Pendleton, and the “Wildcards” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 23, based at Naval Air Station North Island, are aboard the ships.

“This is a humbling opportunity to continue serving our sailors and Marines as commodore of Amphibious Squadron 1, especially while deployed here in the dynamic (Persian) Gulf region,” Foege said. “While the ceremony marks the passing of command from one commander to the next, it also recognizes the awe-inspiring work of every sailor and Marine in this fighting force.”

Foege was the group’s deputy commander. Moore will move on to lead the expeditionary warfare division of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, the Navy said.
