The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three men on a recreational boat that began taking on water about a mile from Carlsbad on Thursday.
The agency got a mayday call from the 19-foot motorboat about 2 p.m., USCG Petty Officer Rob Simpson said.
The cutter Edisto was roughly five miles away at the time and reached the pleasure craft within a few minutes, according to Simpson.
The Coast Guard crew launched an inflatable rescue craft and picked up the uninjured occupants of the civilian boat.
Lifeguards were able to stabilize the foundering boat and towed it to Oceanside Harbor, Simpson said.
