A brush fire blackened about 300 open acres on the grounds of Camp Pendleton on Monday, according to authorities at the base.
The blaze in the northwestern reaches of the northern San Diego County military installation prompted the closure of a stretch of Basilone Road but caused no reported structural threats.
It was unclear what sparked the fire, though weapons training periodically sets dry vegetation ablaze at the base.
