Marines from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Sailors from the Essex Amphibious Ready Group successfully completed two weeks of joint training at Camp Pendleton this month.
The training for the 2,600 Marines aboard the ships included an amphibious-landing exercise using helicopters and landing craft.
“Being able to integrate with the ships and their aircraft is essential to the training of our Marines,” said Marine Col. Vance Cryer, commanding officer of the expeditionary unit.
The Essex group consists of amphibious assault ship USS Essex, amphibious transport dock ship USS Anchorage and amphibious dock landing ship USS Rushmore.
