A 49-year-old Navy commander from Oceanside was killed in a non-combat-related incident in Qatar, the Department of Defense announced Sunday.
Commander Christopher E. Kalafut died Friday at Al Udeid Air Base in Doha, Qatar, while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, military officials said. The incident was under investigation.
Kalafut was assigned to Naval Amphibious Liaison Element, Combined Forces Air Component Center, U.S. Central Command, according to the Department of Defense.
